It’s hard work being a travel blogger! Between working full time, travelling and writing, it doesn’t leave me much spare time, so any help that anyone can give me is much appreciated!
Yes, that’s right, I am now accepting guest posts on my blog. It was a really hard decision to make as Coolest Places has always been my baby and was always very special to me as a way to share my experiences and give advice that I really, truly stood by.
But, as my blog gained popularity, there became more of a demand for fresh new content more regularly than I was currently providing. I always want to give my readers exactly what they want, but life is getting in the way of spending all day, every day writing. A girl’s gotta make a living!
So that’s where the world’s budding writers step in. I’m looking for talented writers to add content to my blog. If you think you could contribute to my site, read on to find out what I’m looking for, what you need to do and how to submit your piece of writing to me.
Topics I’m Looking for
If you’ve visited my site and have read my blogs before, you’ll know that Coolest Places is mainly a travel blog, with some lifestyle thrown in, as long as it is related to travelling and exploring and broadening your horizons.
If you want to add an article to the site, it can be anything you think is relevant to the theme of the rest of the blog. Be creative, be inspired and be original.
Here are some of the topics I’ve written about in the past:
- Travel accessories
- Travel tech
- What to wear on holiday
- Where to find the cheapest travel deals
But don’t let this list limit you. Your article can be about anything you think is appropriate! Maybe you have a fantastic city guide, maybe you’ve got the perfect travel tip or maybe it’s something else I haven’t even thought of before!
Have an interesting title at the ready, people won’t click on it if the title doesn’t draw them in. Here are some examples of blogs I’ve written in the past:
- How to Make Money While Travelling
- Stay Safe While Travelling
- City Breaks that Won’t Break the Bank
- How to Find a Hotel in Berlin
I don’t want you to get too hung up on the technical side of what your article needs to look like, but there are a few imperatives that you need to include. This is to make sure the quality of the blog doesn’t slip and my readers don’t think I’m accepting just anything on the site.
I ask that the piece is more than 500 words. I think it’s the perfect length to get accross your point without being too light on information. Plus, my blog needs to appear in search engines so people can find it to read and there runs a risk of penalisation if a lot of the blog posts are really short.
There also needs to be an interesting title (see above!), so that people are more likely to read it. It would be useful as well for you to break the piece up into segments by using subheadings to make it more interesting and to make it easier to read.
If you have royalty free images for me to use then great! Please send them, if you are struggling for images to use then I can provide one to be used as the featured image. But it would be better if you could provide your own.
How to Submit an Article
Submitting an article couldn’t be easier! Just use the contact form below or email me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org with an introduction to yourself and a suggestion for an article. Please make it clear in the header that you are requesting a guest post and I will attend to your enquiry as soon as possible.
After we’ve had a chat, just send your article over as a word doc or in a Google sheets file and I will post it on the site within a few hours of you sending.
And that’s it! I can’t wait to hear all the ideas you guys have for adding content to the blog!
